3/4 Homework and Subject Learning

During this project, children will work as historians to explore how people lived during the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, discovering how life evolved over thousands of years. They’ll investigate daily life – from hunting and gathering to farming and metalworking – and examine artefacts, including Iron Age hoards, to uncover stories about their makers. They’ll also meet figures like the Amesbury Archer and consider what his burial reveals about prehistoric beliefs and skills.

Barney is bored at Grandmother’s house and decides to visit the local chalk pit. When the ground at the edge of the pit gives way, Barney plunges into the hole and meets Stig, a boy from the Stone Age. Although they cannot use speech to communicate, they become friends and have lots of fun improving Stig’s den, collecting firewood and hunting. Nobody believes that Stig is real until he has to defend Barney.

Geography

During this project, children will explore the UK’s human and physical features using digital maps, then investigate key features of its counties and cities across all four countries. They will then study land use, including five major types, before completing fieldwork around the school to find out how local land is used. Finally, they will consolidate their learning to build a clear understanding of the structure of the UK and it's physical and human features.

During this project, children learn about different light sources and how they differ from reflectors. Children explore how shadows are made, what type of objects make the darkest shadows and how shadows can change, looking for patterns in the data they collect. Children also learn about ultraviolet light and how to protect themselves from it. Finally, they learn how to carry out a fair test to investigate the effectiveness of sunglasses.

Art

During this project, children learn about the foundations of colour theory, exploring how artists use colour to create impact, mood and meaning. They will study how contrasting colours work together and experiment with capturing colours seen in existing artworks. Through practical activities, children will apply their understanding of colour theory to create textile art and develop their own imaginative compositions. By reflecting on their finished pieces, they will evaluate how successfully they have used contrasting colours and colour theory to enhance their artistic intentions. 

DT

During this project, children learn about what makes a healthy, balanced diet and why this is important. They explore different ways to prepare and cook food and learn how to follow recipes accurately. Using their understanding of healthy ingredients, children design and make a nutritious taco, selecting fillings that contribute to a balanced meal, before tasting and evaluating their outcome.
