Driver project:
In the Emperors and Empires project, your child will learn about the growth and decline of the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire. They will discover the absolute power of the Roman emperors and study the hierarchies of Roman society and the Roman army. They will study the first invasions of Britain in 55 and 54 BC and the Roman conquest of Britain in AD 43. They will learn about Boudicca’s rebellion, Hadrian’s Wall and the Romanisation of Britain, including how Christianity came to Britain and investigate the legacy of Roman Britain in their local area.

Roman Tales: The Goose GuardsWhen Fabia embarrasses Brutus in a lesson, he’s determined to have revenge on her. He’s distracted from his plans when the Gauls attack Rome. Many Romans are killed but others are safe in the temples, with a sheer cliff on one side and Roman soldiers defending them on the other. Brennus, the king of the Gauls, plans to attack the remaining Romans, while Brutus comes up with a plan to upset Fabia. |

One Planet, Our world In the One Planet, Our World project, your child will use maps to locate countries and read four-figure grid references. They will sort and classify human and physical features, and begin to use the eight points of a compass to locate geographical features on a map. Your child will study data to find out about life in three settlements. They will learn about the layers of Earth and study plate tectonics. They will name and describe the five major climate zones on Earth and begin to use longitude and latitude to locate places on a world map. Your child will locate and name countries and capital cities in Europe before studying significant human and physical features in the United Kingdom. They will learn about significant UK counties and cities and carry out fieldwork to study the effect of weather on the local environment. Your child will learn the five main types of land use and carry out an enquiry to discover more about local land use. |
Science |
In the Plant Nutrition and Reproduction project, your child will learn to link plant structure to function and identify plant parts associated with water transport and reproduction. They will build on prior learning, naming and describing the function of different parts of flowering plants, including the roots, stems, leaves and flowers. Your child will observe fibrous roots and taproots and investigate how water and nutrients are transported in plants. Your child will create the life cycle of a flowering plant and learn the parts and functions of flower parts. They will ask scientific questions about pollination and research to find the answers. They will learn about seed formation and dispersal and identify how the structure of seeds aid dispersal. |
Art |
Beautiful Botanicals This project teaches children about the genre of botanical art. They create natural weavings, two-colour prints and beautiful and detailed botanical paintings of fruit. |

Making it move This project teaches children about cam mechanisms. They experiment with different shaped cams before designing, making and evaluating a child's automaton toy. |

Homework |
Daily reading - reading diaries will be checked each morning. Both year groups will be set regular additional assignments on DoodleSpell and DoodleMaths to complement their daily learning. There may be additional home learning activities, linked to Topic learning as required. |
