Eco-Committee @StreatleySch

Green Flag award July 2022

Congratulations!!!

Fantastic work Alice!

We are very pleased to tell you that you and your Eco-Committee at Streatley C of E Primary School have been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag.

We reviewed your application and noted the following:

It's wonderful that you have appointed such a large Eco-Committee for a small school! This shows your school’s excellent commitment to both the programme and the eco-cause. It was great to see how young people were responsible for completing meeting minutes – as you note, this helps them to develop and practise new skills and take ownership of the Eco-Schools programme.

Next time, we’d love to see a copy of your minutes to better understand the planning phases. It was wonderful to see how completing your Environmental Review allowed your Eco-Committee to spot gaps in your school's existing environmental activity whilst also helping you to recognise the great work that you were already doing. This helps to keep up the good activity whilst making you feel empowered to do different things. We love this! You’ve clearly had a lot to discuss when completing Review.

Next time, try to write some of these talking points in the Comments section to give us and your school community an insight into your rich discussions. We love your practical and democratic way of deciding which topics to focus on and your ambition in tackling areas where you scored lower in the Environmental Review. This shows you have a confident Eco-Committee dedicated to maximising their impact.

We admire the ambitious range of activities that you and your Eco-Committee planned for delivery, such as planting a green roof and raising money for solar panels. You’ve clearly embedded the ethos of the Eco-Schools programme far and wide in your school! We’re really impressed with how you’ve linked environmental issues to a variety of curriculum areas and that all year groups have benefited from this. This method looks at the big issue of climate change in a holistic way, which is the best approach to understanding and appreciating the enormity of the issue.

Next time, we’d love to see some examples of the children’s learning to really bring these lessons to life for us! Your lovely parent quote is testament to the work that you are doing with your Eco-Committee; that they are taking their Eco-Schools work home with them and getting their families on board is something to be proud of! Your Eco-Board is visual and engaging and promotes your work in a very attractive way. It’s also good to see your Eco-Committee members on the board. This is a great way to raise their esteem and allows their schoolmates to identify them!

Your Eco-Code is really smart and concise, and we especially like the first line – we agree! It's full of great messages and calls-to-action, good work. We hope that you and your Eco-Committee take great pride in your achievements, especially inspiring pupils to start up their own projects and raising money to fund your work. Seeking to change pupils’ attitudes towards caring for their environment is everything we could ask for and more, so everyone involved should be incredibly proud of the steps they have taken in this direction! Congratulations to everyone for the great work you have done, earning your Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. You should all be very proud of your work and the application you have submitted.

As always THANK YOU very much for your hard work, we are so proud of all our schools and the collective achievements they have made to protect our planet for future generations. We look forward to working with Streatley C of E Primary School again next academic year to help you expand on your eco-actions and successes of this year.

Have a great summer break,

The Eco-Schools Team
